How did you start the first time in the import export business?
My story is a little bit different as I do not act as an importer or exporter. But it is very much related with this business.
I founded MEVAS Machinery Evaluation in 2006. There was a raising demand from importers outside Europe to find out if sellers of equipment are reliable and the machines in reality are what the traders show on pictures and Internet. It is happening quite often that we get request from Africa, Middle East or other parts of the world to inspect machines in Europe. When we contact the person who is offering equipment sometimes we figure out if the equipment is not existing or if it is in property of someone else or just offered with some stolen pictures.
Last year for example we had an inquiry to inspect a mobile crane for a Turkish company. They got offered the same machine from 3 different sellers! Recently we got order to inspect a Caterpillar Wheel Loader for a company from Qatar. The machine was supposed to be located in Germany/Frankfurt. We quickly figured out that the machine was sitting in a quarry in Belgium. We had a request 2 weeks ago to inspect a Komatsu grader in Newport UK. But the company was not existing in the given location.
To make it clear: Most of the exporters are trustworthy. But there are always some people who want to make money using fraud. And sometimes the sellers just forget to mention technical problems.
About Your Business:
We inspect all kind of heavy equipment. Our network of inspectors is active in Europe and parts of USA and Canada.
