How did you start the first time in the import export business?
As a Chemistry Major who graduated in 2007, I first got an organic-synthesis job in the R&D department of a chemical factory which manufactures pharmaceutical intermediates of antibiotics (APIs).
From that job it turned out I am not tailored to be a lab synthesis guy, which buried the my specialty of English totally, then I was thinking about a change on my future job, which can fully employs my english, also to make full use of my Chemistry major, there you go, I chose to be in a trading company dealing with finished pharmaceutical formulations such as tablets, capsules etc.
Not I chose actually, I was so desperate then how came I could chose, I was chosen by them, lucky for me, after almost 2-year stay, learning this export process, not doing price quotation or contact oversea customers made my stay there very very boring, and no bright future, which equals not much money for a guy who is always learning by not doing something.
So I left, then I was hired by a factory who is manufacturing sea buck thorn oil for soft-gel capsules, there I put what I learned in first trading company to actual practice. This factory's main market is domestic, the other guy and I were actually very first rookies for their export business, no one to learn from, no former experience to follow, no steady customers, our factory even didn't hold the import and export license. not even after 2 years I left that factory, not counting about 1 year of my stay.
Okay, back to the topic, In that factory, I use the search engine for customer prospecting, as we have no paid b2b platform to receive any inquires from abroad. thus, after so much pain on trying to find the right buyer, even made international calls from my cell, the cost of which won't even be compensated by employer, I still didn't close much sales as I dreamt to do. After almost 1-year stay, I left that city to Zhejiang, where after 2 year sales-man experience of export, octagon chemicals limited was founded. that is my story.
