How did you start the first time in the import export business?
I was in international trade major in university, during that time, we had professional educations on importing and exporting, the process, basic knowledge on international letters, Invoice, Finance, E-commerce, accountant knowledge, however, these are just information.
After I graduated, I went into a big Taiwan manufacturing group company with over 2000 workers to start my exporting career, but I didn't do the foreign trade business during half a year there, our company arranged for me a complete training plan, accumulate real experience in work of different departments, I spent 3 month in the R&D department, 1 month in manufacturing department, 1 month in QC department, 1 month in Sample and test department, 2 month in marketing department as a sales assistant to track orders. After these multiple department experiences, I obtained a clear approach to a big company process and relationships between them, this helped me a lot to be good in international sales.
One year later, I entered a big international business company, this is my true beginning of international exporting sales career, I made a plan for my job, first, try to be an expert of our own products, we must be familiar with the products we sell, besides, we must study it strictly and know much more than our customers, second, learn from colleagues and books about the exporting process and related documents, the skills of communication, complaints handling, and the third step is to do it in practice.
In the third month after I joined this company, I got my first order from one of my new customers, which values about 20,000 USD, not big money, but I was encouraged a lot, I met many problems and difficulties in later days, but I can handle them very well, as time went on, I found that my customers base was growing, as well as my sales achievements, and I was promoted to be manager and then vice president.
So many years have passed, I enjoy the pains as well as the joys, but I always believe that never give up and work hard in right way, and you will succeed sooner or later.
